Labour Party Leader Alleges Financial Irregularities: Calls on Peter Obi to Explain $15 Million Campaign Donation

Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the Labour Party (LP), has raised serious allegations against Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections. In an interview with Arise News TV, Arabambi accused Obi of planning to purchase a private jet, despite publicly criticizing other Nigerian leaders for owning such aircraft.

Arabambi further claimed that Obi, along with the embattled National Chairman, Julius Abure, and other party members from the South East, is working towards regionalizing the Labour Party. He pointed out discrepancies in the account of the party’s 2023 campaign spending provided by Obi, asserting that $15 million donated to the party from the diaspora is unaccounted for.

According to Arabambi, the funds are allegedly held in Fidelity Bank, and he questioned Obi’s sudden ability to afford private jet travel after the 2023 elections. Arabambi emphasized that the money rightfully belongs to the Labour Party and called for transparency regarding its handling.

Highlighting Obi’s alleged lack of managerial ability, Arabambi stressed that internal conflicts within the Labour Party stem from these issues. He urged all stakeholders to come together to resolve the crisis, emphasizing the need for collective ownership and collaboration for the party’s future success.

Arabambi concluded by expressing concerns about the party’s unity leading into the 2027 elections. He warned against allowing the current turmoil to become a stepping stone for political figures like Bola Tinubu. The National Publicity Secretary urged Peter Obi to demonstrate true Nigerian leadership traits, avoiding ethnic biases and fostering unity within the party. Arabambi alleged that the attempts by Abure and Obi to “Anambralise, Imonise, and Abianise” the Labour Party have been the primary causes of the ongoing crisis.
