Kwankwaso Speaks on Rumoured Defection to APC
Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has addressed rumours suggesting he plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), firmly denying any such intentions. Speaking through his official X handle, @KwankwasoRM, the former Kano State governor described the reports as baseless and politically motivated.
Kwankwaso clarified that he has not reached any agreement with any individual or group regarding a move to the APC. He also noted that he has deliberately chosen not to comment on current political events and intends to maintain that position for now.
Reacting to a statement circulating in his name and allegedly signed by one Ibrahim Rabiu, Kwankwaso distanced himself from the document and said he did not authorise anyone to speak on his behalf. “My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly stating my position on the recurring political realignments. I wish to categorically state that such statements are false, unfounded, and products of political mischief,” he said.
He urged the public to disregard any information not coming directly from his verified accounts or official sources.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Rabiu has also come forward to deny authoring the statement with Kwankwaso’s consent. He issued a public apology, admitting he acted without authorisation and was misled by misinformation. “I was never authorised by Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso to issue and release a statement on his behalf,” he said, pledging that the incident would not happen again.
