Kogi Mourns the Passing of Its Esteemed First-Class King, Alhaji Dr. Ado Ibrahim, at 95
In a somber moment of grief and loss, Kogi State residents are mourning the demise of Alhaji Dr. Ado Ibrahim, the revered Paramount ruler of Ebira land, known as the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland. The distinguished monarch passed away at the age of 95 after a brief illness, leaving a profound void in the hearts of many.
According to reliable sources, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland had been battling illness for some time and was under medical care at a private hospital in Abuja. Sadly, on an early Sunday morning, the revered leader breathed his last, marking the end of an era for Kogi State.
The late Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, born on February 7, 1929, was the fourth traditional ruler and the current custodian of the Ebiraland tradition, with the traditional state’s headquarters situated in Okene, Kogi State. His educational journey was a testament to his commitment to knowledge. He commenced his early schooling by attending both Western nursery and Quranic schools and later completed his primary education in 1940 at the Native Authority (NA) primary school in Okene, then part of the Northern Region, which is now within Kogi State.
Continuing his pursuit of knowledge, Alhaji Dr. Ado Ibrahim began his secondary education at Ondo Boys High School and later transferred to Oduduwa College, where he successfully graduated in 1949. His academic achievements reached even greater heights when he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the prestigious London School of Economics in 1954. Later, he pursued further studies and earned a master’s degree from Harvard Business School in 1959.
Alhaji Dr. Ado Ibrahim’s reign as the Ohinoyi of Ebira land commenced in 1997 when he was crowned by the then governor of Kogi State, the late Prince Abubakar Audu. He succeeded Alhaji Sanni Omolori, who had served as the traditional ruler between 1957 and 1997, as a revered custodian of the Ebiraland heritage.
The late Ohinoyi of Ebiraland’s contributions to the region were significant, and his passing leaves a profound legacy in Kogi State. As per Muslim tradition, his remains are expected to be brought to his hometown, Okene, for a burial ceremony, paying homage to his life and the indelible mark he left on the region. Kogi State, as well as the entire nation, mourns the loss of a distinguished leader, scholar, and monarch.
