Kogi Guber Poll: Why I Won’t go to Court – Ajaka

In the aftermath of the Kogi State governorship election, Murtala Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, has declared his decision not to contest the election results in court. The declaration came shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner, with Ajaka securing the second position.

Ajaka voiced his firm stance against challenging the results in a Channels Television interview, citing his lack of confidence in the judicial process due to what he alleged as INEC’s compromise in favor of his opponent, Mr. Ododo.

Expressing disappointment and concern, Ajaka called for an investigation into the conduct of electoral officers during the election, particularly highlighting discrepancies in vote counts, stating, “If they don’t do a checklist and investigate their officials that went to Kogi State and allow this to stand, I doubt if there will be an election in 2027.”

The SDP candidate emphasized the financial and time investments made in mobilizing supporters, expressing frustration at the lack of transparency in the election process despite the assurances given by INEC. He warned that if these issues persist across states, it could provoke anarchy in the nation.

Ajaka’s decision not to pursue legal action reflects a broader concern over the electoral process and the perceived lack of accountability, raising apprehensions about the integrity of future elections in Nigeria.
