Key Boko Haram Leader Abu Asad Eliminated in NAF Air Strikes

In a significant victory against Boko Haram, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reported the successful elimination of Abu Asad, a crucial member of the notorious terrorist group. The operation took place during air strikes on the terrorists’ hideout at Tagoshe on Mandara Mountains in Borno.

Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, revealed the details in a statement on Saturday in Abuja. The air strikes, conducted on Friday, are described as among the most successful bombardments undertaken by the air component of Operation Hadin Kai in recent times.

Gabkwet explained that intelligence led them to discover a concentration of terrorists in an isolated location with three zinc structures and several trees. The footage indicated that the terrorists were gathering for a well-planned meeting or preparing for a major attack on troops.

Over 100 heavily armed terrorists were observed in the area, engaging in banter and moving randomly around the structures, which also housed four troop carriers. The aftermath of the air strike revealed the destruction of two out of the three structures and the entire troop carriers.

Among the eliminated terrorists, Abu Asad, a key figure in the Ali Ngulde group under Boko Haram, was identified. Other notable figures included Ibrahim Nakeeb, Mujaheed Dimtu, Mustafa Munzir, and several fighters.

Chief of Air Staff, Hasan Abubakar, commended the air component commander and his team for their successful operation. He urged continued collaboration with the land component, emphasizing the need to keep the terrorists on the defensive.

Abubakar stated, “You must ensure that we go all out in making life unbearable for these terrorists and criminals until they surrender or are completely eliminated.” The chief of air staff emphasized the commitment to justifying the trust and confidence placed in them by the federal government and the Nigerian people.
