‘Kanu Seeking Negotiation With FG is False & Deepfake News’ – IPOB Leader’s Lawyer, Ejimakor
Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the special counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has refuted reports circulating on various media platforms that claim Kanu is seeking negotiation with the Nigerian government. These reports are inaccurate, according to Ejimakor.
The false reports suggested that Kanu, through Ejimakor, requested negotiations with the Nigerian government during a Federal High Court session in Abuja on Wednesday regarding the terrorism charges against him. However, Ejimakor clarified that these claims misrepresent the court’s directive.
“The news titled ‘Kanu Seeks Negotiation With FG’ is false and a deepfake news meant to twist an idea that was muted as an alternative to trial by the Court and the parties,” Ejimakor stated.
The lawyer explained that the court invoked Section 17 of the Federal High Court Act, directing both the Nigerian government and Kanu to consider reconciliation as an alternative. This directive was misunderstood and misreported as Kanu actively seeking negotiation.
“The truth is that the Court directed the parties to consider the option of reconciliation which the law allows,” Ejimakor concluded.
