Kano in Shock as Two Children Are Killed and Blood Drained in Suspected Ritual Attack

Residents of Zango Biyu in Rimin Gado Local Government Area of Kano State are in shock after two children were killed in separate, brutal incidents over the weekend, sparking fears of ritual killings.

The first victim, five-year-old Muhammad Gambo, was found dead on Sunday morning. According to witnesses, he had been sent by his mother to buy powder at a local shop, but the shopkeeper turned him away due to insufficient funds. On his way to his grandparents’ house instead, he was attacked. A community member, Laminu Ahmad, said the boy was “slaughtered like a ram” and blood was collected, suggesting ritualistic intent.

Tragedy struck again when 13-year-old Fatima Sule was found dead in her family home at Dandinshe Quarters, Dalal Local Government Area. Eyewitnesses reported that she had been strangled, her neck broken, and her body hanged on a window. Fatima’s mother recounted the heartbreaking discovery, saying she had left her children at home briefly and returned to find her daughter had been killed.

The Kano State Police Command has reportedly directed that the victims be buried after preliminary investigations and has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators. Attempts to reach the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
