Kano Hisbah Arrests Youths for Not Fasting and ‘Indecent’ Haircuts
The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested several young men accused of failing to observe the Ramadan fast on the first day of the holy month. The Deputy Commander General of the Board, Dr. Mujahideen Abubakar, confirmed the arrests while speaking to journalists in the state.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended during routine patrols by Hisbah operatives across various parts of Kano metropolis. In addition to those arrested for not fasting, the board also took action against individuals for wearing what it described as “indecent haircuts,” which it says violate Islamic principles and local cultural norms.
The enforcement did not stop there, as Hisbah officials also arrested several commercial tricycle (keke napep) drivers for allegedly allowing male and female passengers to mix in their vehicles, a practice the board insists it will not tolerate.
Hisbah authorities have vowed to continue their patrols throughout Ramadan to ensure strict adherence to Sharia law in the state.
