Kano Government Issues Fresh Eviction Notice to Former Emir Ado Bayero
The Kano State Government has issued a fresh eviction notice to the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, directing the police to remove him from the Nassarawa mini palace. This action comes as part of ongoing tensions following Bayero’s dethronement.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had previously ordered Bayero’s arrest upon his return to the state two days after his dethronement, accusing him of inciting unrest. Despite this, additional soldiers have been deployed to secure the mini palace for Bayero.
The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Gunel, had earlier stated that the police would comply with a Federal High Court order, which restrained the Kano government from reinstating Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi. He emphasized, “The Police Command is expressly obeying the Court Order with SUIT No. FHC/KN/CS/182/2024 issued by the Federal High Court sitting in Kano.”
Addressing the media on Thursday, State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isah Dederi, reinforced the government’s stance. He explained that the recent court ruling reaffirmed the validity of the law passed by the Kano State House of Assembly and signed by the Governor on May 23, 2024.
“The ruling validates all actions taken by the government prior to the court’s interim order, including the abolishment of the five emirates created in 2019 and the deposition of their emirs. Consequently, Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the Emir of Kano,” said Dederi.
Following the court’s decision, the Kano State Government has instructed the State Commissioner of Police to evict the deposed emir from the government property to proceed with planned renovations. “The property will undergo comprehensive reconstruction and renovation, including the demolition and rebuilding of the dilapidated wall fence with immediate effect,” Dederi added.
