Kano Election: Falana Reacts to Court of Appeal’s Contradictory Verdict

Renowned human rights lawyer and activist Femi Falana has expressed deep concern over what he calls a “scandalous” contradiction in the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the recent judgment by the Court of Appeal concerning the Kano State gubernatorial election.

Falana, in an interview on Arise TV on Tuesday, asserted that the CTC upheld the victory of Governor Abba Yusuf, contrary to the verdict announced by the judges. This revelation aligns with an earlier report by SK Blog.

Despite the Friday judgment by the three-man panel, chaired by Moore Adumein, affirming the victory of APC’s Nasiru Gawuna, the CTC released on Tuesday contained conflicting declarations. One notable inconsistency was the award of N1,000,000 cost in favor of the NNPP against the APC, contrary to the initial ruling.

The contradictory statements within the CTC, signed by all three justices, have raised eyebrows. The appellate court initially declared in favor of the APC but later contradicted itself by resolving all issues in favor of the NNPP.

Falana expressed dismay at the contradictions, emphasizing that the court’s majority judgment confirmed the lower court’s error and granted all the relief sought by Governor Abba.

The confusion deepened as the court, in its final line, set aside the tribunal’s judgment that removed the governor, further complicating the already intricate legal landscape.

Falana criticized the court for what he perceives as a scandalous impact on the judiciary’s integrity and questioned the decision to penalize millions of voters for errors committed by INEC officials.

The Kano State election saga continues to unfold, leaving citizens and legal experts alike grappling with the perplexing contradictions within the Court of Appeal’s judgment.
