Kaduna Opposition Coalition Endorses ADC Ahead of 2027, Launches Grassroots Mobilisation

In a significant political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections, key opposition stakeholders in Kaduna State have thrown their support behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC), adopting it as their unified political platform. The move, described as a strategic realignment, was announced at a press conference in Kaduna, where leaders from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP) revealed plans to mobilise supporters and strengthen ADC structures across the state.

Leaders of the coalition said the decision follows the national unveiling of the ADC as the Coalition of Political Opposition’s platform during a meeting in Abuja on July 2, 2025. They vowed to restructure the party across all 23 local government areas and 255 wards in Kaduna State, pledging to build a people-oriented, democratic movement capable of challenging the ruling APC in the next elections.

Present at the announcement were Alhaji Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, Mr. Patrick Didam, and Alhaji Ibrahim Suleiman, while national figures such as Senator Nenadi Usman, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, and Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati endorsed the event through official representatives. Addressing journalists, Mallam Salihu Mohammed Lukman stated that the coalition’s alliance with the ADC is rooted in a shared commitment to inclusive, grassroots politics and a rejection of authoritarianism and political manipulation.

The coalition emphasised the need to prevent a repeat of past political disappointments, where parties were hijacked by self-serving elites. They called for collective leadership, equal participation, and a break from the politics of godfatherism and exclusion, stressing that their goal is to establish a truly democratic structure.

Warning that personal ambition must take a backseat to the collective mission, the coalition said that unseating the APC at both the state and federal levels will require unity and a broad-based effort. They appealed to all opposition leaders to focus on building a common platform, declaring that no single individual can defeat Governor Uba Sani or President Bola Tinubu without a united front.

The group also confirmed that the ADC’s current leadership in Kaduna will remain in place, a decision supported by the party’s Interim National Chairman, Senator David Mark, at a meeting held on July 11, 2025. The coalition announced that it had begun consultations with the ADC’s leadership in the state and was finalising the verification of existing party structures.

In a direct message to aspiring members and supporters, the coalition urged a return to grassroots, constitutional politics and warned against any attempts at internal hijacking of the party. They expressed a desire to cultivate a new generation of democratic, service-driven leaders committed to the public good.

As mobilisation and membership registration prepare to kick off in the coming weeks, the coalition invited citizens across Kaduna’s 23 LGAs to actively participate in what they described as a movement to rescue Nigerian democracy. With endorsements from notable figures including Sen. Nenadi Usman, Sen. Datti Baba-Ahmed, Dr. John Ayuba, Sen. Musa Bello, Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati, and Mallam Salihu Mohammed Lukman, the coalition reaffirmed its commitment to principled, people-centered politics.
