Kaduna Man Drags Daughter’s Boyfriend to Court Over N13m Death Benefits Dispute
A family dispute over alleged misappropriation of death benefits has landed in court in Kaduna State.
On Monday, Mr. Ishaku Joseph brought a case against his daughter’s boyfriend, Yunana Zock, before a Customary Court in Kaduna, accusing him of illegally taking N13 million that was paid as benefits following the death of Joseph’s wife.
Prosecutor ASP Jeremiah Amfani told the court that the money had been transferred to Joseph’s daughter, Emmanuella, in 2023, as she was listed as next of kin. He alleged that Zock deceived her and withdrew the funds without consent.
Testifying before the court, Emmanuella claimed her boyfriend took her ATM card without her knowledge and withdrew the money.
Zock, however, denied wrongdoing. He said N11.9 million was transferred into Emmanuella’s account with her knowledge, and that she had agreed to give him N2 million to start a business. He further stated that they shared ATM PINs while living together in Abuja.
The accused presented an Opay account statement as evidence, which the court admitted as an exhibit. He also informed the court that he would call a witness during the next hearing.
Presiding Judge, Ms. Patience Musa, adjourned the matter to September 30 for continuation of the defence.
