JUST IN: Wanted Kidnapper Arrested at Abuja Hajj Camp

A man declared wanted over alleged involvement in kidnappings was arrested by security operatives on Sunday at the hajj camp in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The suspect, identified as Yahaya Zango, was apprehended during the screening of intending pilgrims scheduled to be airlifted to Saudi Arabia for the 2025 hajj. He was caught alongside other Muslim pilgrims while presenting his travel documents at the airport-based camp.

A security source confirmed the arrest to our correspondent, stating that Zango, a resident of Paikon-Kore in Gwagwalada Area Council, had been on the run since a manhunt was launched for his alleged role in several abductions. Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) reportedly carried out the arrest discreetly during the screening process and swiftly took him into custody.

A senior official of the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also confirmed the incident.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, clarified that she was not in a position to comment on actions taken by the DSS.

As of the time of filing this report, the DSS had yet to issue an official statement on the arrest.

The development comes amid growing concern over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, with various efforts by authorities so far falling short of expectations.
