JUST IN: NNPC Announces Planned Shutdown of Port Harcourt Refinery, Gives Reason
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced that the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) will undergo a scheduled shutdown for maintenance, beginning May 24, 2025.
In a statement issued Saturday by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Femi Soneye, the company said the temporary closure is part of a planned maintenance and sustainability assessment aimed at ensuring optimal performance of the facility. NNPC noted that it is working with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and other relevant stakeholders to carry out the maintenance exercise efficiently and transparently.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable energy security and assured the public that regular updates on the maintenance activities will be provided through its official communication channels.
This marks another disruption in operations at the refinery, which had resumed activities in late 2024 after undergoing a $1.5 billion rehabilitation.
