JUST IN: Tinubu Approves New Appointments in the NCC, Other Key Government Agencies

President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is set to welcome Aminu Maida as its new Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), effectively replacing the outgoing Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, who is departing from his position with immediate effect.

Aminu Maida currently serves as the Executive Director for Technology and Operations at Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS), bringing with him over 15 years of multi-functional and international experience in FinTech, Telecoms, and Enterprise Technology. Prior to his role at NIBSS, Maida held the position of Chief Technology Officer at the Nigerian-based FinTech, Arca Payments Network, and served as a Senior Manager at Cisco Systems UK.

Maida’s academic credentials include an MEng in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College London and a PhD in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath UK.

The outgoing EVC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, who has held the position since 2015 and was reappointed for a second five-year term in July 2020, is stepping down amid allegations of corruption, which are speculated to be connected to the non-renewal of his tenure.

President Tinubu also made several other notable appointments in key government agencies, reinforcing his commitment to leveraging Nigeria’s technological and digital economic capabilities. Nkechi Egerton-Idehen has been appointed as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT).

Other appointments include Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr. Vincent Olatunji as the National Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), and Tola Odeyemi as the Postmaster General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).

Additionally, President Tinubu announced the appointment of a new Special Adviser to the President on Technology and Digital Economy, Idris Alubankudi.

These appointments, as announced by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, take immediate effect and mark a significant shift in leadership and strategy within these crucial government agencies.
