Updated: Tinubu Appoints Olukoyede as New EFCC Chairman, Hammajoda as Secretary

President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of Ola Olukoyede as the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for an initial renewable term of four years, subject to Senate confirmation. This announcement comes after the resignation of the suspended Executive Chairman, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa.

Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement on Thursday, revealed that President Tinubu’s decision to appoint Olukoyede was based on the powers vested in him by section 2 (3) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004, which states that the Chairman and members of the Commission, other than ex-officio members, shall be appointed by the President.

Ola Olukoyede brings with him a wealth of experience, boasting over 22 years as a regulatory compliance consultant and a specialist in fraud management and corporate intelligence. He is no stranger to the operations of the EFCC, having previously served as Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman from 2016 to 2018 and as Secretary to the Commission from 2018 to 2023. These experiences make him a fitting choice for the role of Chairman of the EFCC.

In addition to this appointment, President Tinubu has also approved the selection of Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda to serve as the Secretary of the anti-graft Commission, with an initial renewable term of five years, contingent on Senate confirmation.

Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda, a seasoned public administrator, comes with extensive experience in public finance management. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri and a Master’s in Business Administration from the same university. Hammajoda’s career journey includes time as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, and successful stints in the banking sector, including positions at the defunct Allied Bank and Standard Trust Bank.

President Bola Tinubu has set high expectations for the new leadership of the EFCC, charging them to validate the trust placed in them for this vital national assignment.
