JUST IN: Tinubu Appoints Major-General Laka as Coordinator for Counter-Terrorism Centre
President Bola Tinubu has greenlit the appointment of Major-General Adamu Garba Laka as the new National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, a pivotal move in Nigeria’s ongoing battle against terrorism.
In an official statement released by the presidency on Tuesday, it was revealed that Laka will assume his duties within the Office of the National Security Adviser. Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, underscored Laka’s extensive experience, particularly in the North-East region of Nigeria, where he employed strategic tactics to combat terrorist factions.
Ngelale further highlighted Laka’s international involvement, citing his deployments in Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo under the United Nations, as well as his participation in the US AFRICOM exercise in Senegal as part of the Nigerian contingent.
Laka’s academic credentials were also emphasized, with Ngelale noting his Master’s Degrees in National Security from the National Defence University, Pakistan, and in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy.
The presidential spokesman expressed President Tinubu’s confidence in Laka’s ability to leverage his wealth of experience in his new role. Tinubu envisions Laka’s leadership contributing significantly to the proactive and diligent coordination of counter-terrorism efforts, thereby enhancing national security and mitigating threats effectively.
