JUST IN: Terrorists Launch Deadly Attack on Yobe Community, Resulting in Deaths, Destruction
Suspected Boko Haram insurgents mounted a devastating assault on Mafa village in the Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe state on Sunday afternoon. The attack, which began around 4 p.m., involved a large group of armed militants riding over 50 motorcycles.
According to Yobe State Police Command spokesperson Dungus Abdulkarim, the assailants were heavily armed with rifles and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). They targeted residential areas, setting numerous homes and shops ablaze and looting properties. The exact number of casualties remains undetermined, but the violence has reportedly resulted in numerous fatalities.
The assault was reported to the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Station by local residents Babagana Goni and Bako Ibrahim. In addition to the widespread destruction, the terrorists left behind fliers inscribed with Arabic text, further contributing to the atmosphere of fear and confusion in the community.
This incident follows a similar attack on Friday, where terrorists targeted a private school in nearby Geidam. That assault resulted in the deaths of three students and left one injured.
The Yobe State Police Command has yet to provide further details on the number of victims or the full extent of the damage.
