The Supreme Court has reserved judgment in a contentious lawsuit concerning the autonomy of Local Governments (LGs) in Nigeria. The case, brought by the Federal Government through the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) against various states, has sparked widespread debate and anticipation across the nation.
Presiding over a seven-member panel, Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba announced today that a verdict date will soon be communicated to all involved parties and their legal representatives. This decision follows the conclusion of final arguments and submissions by the respective counsels.
The issue of LG autonomy has been a focal point of legal and political discourse in Nigeria, with implications for governance structures and federal-state relations. The outcome of this case is eagerly awaited as it could potentially redefine the powers and operational independence of LGs nationwide.
