JUST IN: Supreme Court Judgment Affirms Udeh-Okoye as Party’s National Secretary – PDP NWC
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared Rt. Hon. SKE Udeh-Okoye as its substantive National Secretary, following a Supreme Court judgment the party interprets as affirming its internal processes and leadership decisions. This comes amidst earlier reports suggesting that Senator Samuel Anyanwu had been declared the rightful occupant of the position—a development that sparked confusion and conflicting interpretations of the court’s decision.
In a statement released by the National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP commended the apex court for reaffirming what it described as the principle of party supremacy in internal affairs, stating that the judgment validates Udeh-Okoye’s emergence through established constitutional procedures within the party.
According to the PDP, Udeh-Okoye was nominated by the South East Zonal Executive Committee after Senator Anyanwu became the party’s governorship candidate for the November 2023 election in Imo State. His nomination was ratified by the NWC at its 577th meeting on November 7, 2023, and subsequently endorsed by key party organs including the Board of Trustees (BoT), the PDP Governors’ Forum, and the South East Zonal Caucus. The appointment was also officially communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
While legal analysts and political observers continue to interpret the implications of the Supreme Court ruling differently, the PDP insists the judgment confirms its right to manage leadership changes internally without judicial interference. The party described the outcome as “a victory for democracy” and urged all members to remain united in moving the party forward.
