JUST IN: Senator Austin Akobundu Resigns from PDP
Senator Austin Akobundu, who represents Abia Central Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Akobundu announced his decision in a letter titled “Notice of Formal Resignation,” addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Oloko, stating that his resignation takes effect immediately.
In the letter, he expressed appreciation for the opportunities he had to serve both the party and the country in various capacities. He cited ongoing internal crises within the PDP as a key factor in his decision, adding that he consulted with associates and supporters before taking this step.
“At this time of our nation’s political evolution, the sad and seemingly intractable crises that have engulfed the party for so long have made it necessary for me to take the painful decision to resign my membership,” the letter said.
Akobundu’s resignation is effective from March 10, 2026. He wished the party well in its future endeavors but did not indicate whether he plans to join another political party.
