JUST IN: Senate Postpones Service Chiefs’ Security Briefing to a Later Date, Cites Reason
The Senate has postponed the anticipated security briefing by service chiefs to February 13, 2024. Originally slated for today, the decision to broaden the scope of the briefing prompted the delay.
The motion to adjourn the security briefing was set in motion by the leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and found support from the minority leader, Senator Abba Moro. Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in approving the adjournment, emphasized the Senate’s commitment to a comprehensive discussion on the escalating insecurity in the nation.
To facilitate a more inclusive dialogue, the clerk of the Senate has been instructed to expand the list of invitees. The revised attendees now include all service chiefs, the National Security Adviser, Finance Minister, Interior Minister, Defence Minister, Minister of State for Defence, and the Minister of Police Affairs.
