JUST IN: Senate Confirms Professor Joash Amupitan as INEC Chairman
The Senate has confirmed Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Amupitan’s confirmation came after a two-hour screening by lawmakers in the red chambers of the National Assembly in Abuja. During the session, he responded to questions from senators on critical issues including election management, administrative policies, and provisions of the Electoral Act.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier requested the Senate to confirm Amupitan following the expiration of the tenure of former INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu. The request was conveyed in a letter read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
