JUST IN: Rivers Assembly Orders Fubara to Submit Commissioner-Nominees for Screening, Confirmation
The Rivers State House of Assembly has directed Governor Siminalayi Fubara to forward a list of commissioner-nominees for screening and confirmation as part of efforts to stabilize governance in the state.
The directive came on Wednesday during the Assembly’s first plenary session since the lifting of emergency rule, held at the Conference Hall of the Legislative Quarters on Aba Road, Port Harcourt. Lawmakers at the sitting emphasized the need for the executive to immediately constitute a full cabinet to address pressing issues of governance.
In their remarks, members of the Assembly commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his intervention in the prolonged political crisis, noting that his leadership paved the way for peace to return to Rivers State. They also reaffirmed their commitment to abide by the peace pact brokered by the Presidency and other stakeholders, assuring that they would continue to act in line with the agreement to guarantee lasting stability.
The Assembly maintained that effective collaboration between the legislature and executive was crucial to sustaining the fragile calm that has returned to the state, adding that the nomination and confirmation of commissioners would mark a significant step toward normalcy.
