Rivers Assembly to Probe Ibas’ Administration
The Rivers State House of Assembly has resolved to investigate the state’s finances during the six-month administration of Ibok-Ete Ibas, who served as sole administrator.
The lawmakers also called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to forward the list of commissioner nominees to the Assembly for screening.
The Assembly resumed sitting on Thursday morning following the suspension of emergency rule in the state. President Bola Tinubu had announced the suspension on Wednesday, restoring democratic institutions.
Thursday’s plenary was presided over by Speaker Martins Amaewhule at the conference hall within the Assembly quarters, as the main complex remains under reconstruction after it was demolished months ago by the state government.
Tinubu declared emergency rule in Rivers State on March 18 after a prolonged political crisis between Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Following the declaration, Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Assembly were suspended for six months.
During the period, Ibas was appointed by the president to oversee the affairs of the state as sole administrator.
