Full List: Rivers Assembly Receives First Batch of Fubara’s Commissioner Nominees

The Rivers State House of Assembly has received the first batch of commissioner nominees from Governor Siminalayi Fubara, marking a key step in the state’s ongoing political reconciliation process.

Emeka Amadi, clerk of the House, confirmed in a statement on the assembly’s Facebook page that the governor submitted a list of nine nominees. The nominees are:

* Datonye Alasia, Professor

* Tonye Bellgam

* Temple Nwofor

* Peters Nwagor

* Charity Deemua

* Tamuno Williams, Lawyer

* Lekue Kenneth

* Otonye Amachree, Lawyer

* Amairigha Hart

According to the Assembly, each nominee has been asked to submit 40 copies of their Curriculum Vitae, copies of credentials, and proof of tax compliance to the Clerk’s office at the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters.

The submission follows the dissolution of the state executive council on February 12, shortly after President Bola Tinubu’s fourth intervention in the political dispute between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The conflict, which has lasted since 2023, largely revolved around control of political structures in the oil-rich state.

On February 19, the House of Assembly withdrew its third impeachment motion against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngọzi Odu, signaling a move toward stability in the state’s political leadership.

The nomination of commissioners is seen as a critical step in reconstituting the executive council and implementing the peace agreement brokered at the federal level. Observers note that the governor’s choice of nominees—including professionals and lawyers—reflects a focus on both technical expertise and governance experience.

The Assembly is expected to begin the screening process once all documentation from the nominees has been submitted.
