JUST IN: Residents Loot NEMA Warehouse in Abuja Amid Economic Hardship
Residents of the Federal Capital Territory descended upon a National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) warehouse in Karimo, Phase 3 Region of Abuja on Sunday morning. The warehouse, housing essential supplies, fell victim to looters grappling with the increasing economic challenges faced by many Nigerians.
It was learned that the looters targeted foodstuffs and various items in their desperate bid to cope with the prevailing hardship. The Nigeria Police Force swiftly responded by deploying personnel to the scene, aiming to disperse the crowd and secure the compromised warehouse.
Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that the situation is now under control. This brazen act comes at a time when the nation is grappling with the aftermath of the removal of fuel subsidy and the devaluation of the naira, enacted under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The economic policies implemented have led to a surge in the prices of goods, exacerbating the rate of inflation and triggering widespread dissatisfaction among citizens. The incident at the NEMA warehouse highlights the urgency of addressing the socioeconomic challenges faced by the populace.
