JUST IN: Professor Obiora Okonkwo Withdraws from APC Governorship Primary in Anambra, Gives Reason
Professor Obiora Okonkwo, a prominent aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Anambra State, has officially withdrawn from the ongoing primary election. In a statement issued today, Okonkwo explained that after a thorough evaluation of the primary election process, he concluded that developments within the party were inconsistent with his principles and values.
His decision to step down comes amidst growing tensions within the race, with Okonkwo emphasizing that the risks involved, particularly the safety of his supporters, were too great to ignore. Despite this, he reassured his supporters that his passion for public service remains unchanged. Okonkwo expressed his continued dedication to the socio-economic development of Anambra State and Nigeria, vowing to support President Bola Tinubu’s programs aimed at boosting the nation’s economic growth.
This marks the third major withdrawal from the APC gubernatorial primary in Anambra, signaling a shift in the race as key contenders step aside. Okonkwo expressed deep gratitude to his supporters and stakeholders, thanking them for their trust and commitment.
In his closing remarks, Okonkwo reaffirmed his belief in the future of Anambra, stating, “May Anambra succeed for its future generations.”
