JUST IN: President Tinubu Appoints New Officials to Key INEC Roles

 

 

In a recent set of appointments, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Abdulrazak Yusuf Tukur as National Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representing Nigeria’s North West region. Additionally, Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi, a lawyer, has been nominated to assume the role of Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ogun State, following the passing of the former commissioner.

 

These appointments were announced by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. Onanuga highlighted Tukur’s extensive experience within INEC, noting his progression from an assistant chief administrative officer in 1999 to the director of Electoral Operations and Logistics. Tukur, 59, holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bayero University, a postgraduate diploma in Economics from Bradford University, and a Master of Arts from Leeds University in the UK. His confirmation as National Commissioner is pending Senate approval.

 

Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi, nominated as Ogun’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, currently serves as INEC’s Administrative Secretary in Lagos State. Originally from Ilaje in Ondo State, Ibiyemi completed her law degree at Obafemi Awolowo University in 1987 and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. Her appointment also awaits Senate confirmation. If confirmed, she will succeed ‘Niyi Ijalaye, who passed away while serving in the position.
