JUST IN: President Tinubu Appoints New Heads for NABTEB, UBEC

 

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Aminu as the new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB). Dr. Aminu, who holds a Ph.D. in Automobile Technology and a Master’s degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, brings nearly three decades of experience in teaching, administration, research, and policy development. Prior to his appointment, he was Director of Procurement at the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI). A vocal advocate for vocational education and youth empowerment, Dr. Aminu is a member of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria and the Automotive and Locomotive Engineers Institute. President Tinubu charged him to provide transformational leadership at NABTEB and continue its mission of assessing and certifying skilled human resources critical to Nigeria’s industrial development.

 

In a series of related appointments, Mr. Idris Olorunnimbe has been named Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Board. Known for his innovative leadership in education, entertainment, and sports, Mr. Olorunnimbe is the founder and Group CEO of The Temple Company. He previously served on the Board of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), where he led stakeholder engagement and governance efforts focused on youth employment and entrepreneurship.

 

President Tinubu also appointed Rasaq Olajuwon from the South West as Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical) of UBEC, and Tunde Ajibulu from the North Central as Deputy Executive Secretary (Services). Mr. Olajuwon was Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA), while Mr. Ajibulu, a Fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), is a Director at Tangent Construction Nigeria Limited and a Partner at Covenant Consultancy Services.

 

These appointments follow the December 2024 announcement of Aisha Garba from the North West as UBEC’s Executive Secretary. President Tinubu urged the new leadership team to strengthen human capital development, support ongoing education reforms, and enhance service delivery across Nigeria’s basic education system.
