JUST IN: Presidency Speaks on Viral Report of INEC Chairman Sack
A viral report claiming that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has been sacked and replaced by Prof. Bashiru Olamilekan has stirred widespread reactions across social media. The unverified message, framed as breaking news, spread rapidly, prompting confusion and speculation.
However, the Presidency has swiftly moved to debunk the claim, categorically dismissing it as fake news. In a statement released by O’tega Ogra, the Senior Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Digital Media and New Media, the report was labeled false and misleading.
“Disregard any fake news making the rounds about the replacement of the INEC Chairman,” Ogra stated. “Any such announcement will come from the SGF’s office or any other official source.”
The clarification aims to douse the growing tension the viral post may have triggered, reaffirming that there has been no change in INEC leadership.
