JUST IN: Police Confirms Killing of Five Officers in Bauchi Ambush

The Bauchi State Police Command has reported that five police officers were killed in an ambush by armed bandits in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government Area. The attack occurred on 22 November when a joint tactical team on a routine patrol to address farmer–herder tensions came under heavy fire from unidentified assailants.

Police spokesman CSP Ahmed Wakil said the team, which included personnel from the Rapid Response Squad, Mobile Police 10 PMF, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the State Intelligence Department, was attacked shortly after noon. He confirmed that DSP Ahmad Muhammad, ASP Mustapha Muhammad, Inspector Amarhel Yunusa, Inspector Idris Ahmed and Corporal Isah Muazu lost their lives in the assault, while two other officers, Inspector Isah Musa and Inspector Yusuf Gambo, sustained injuries.

According to Wakil, reinforcements led by the Darazo Divisional Police Officer, SP Auwalu Ilu, moved to the scene, rescuing the wounded and recovering the bodies. The injured officers were taken to the General Hospital in Darazo for treatment, and the remains of the fallen personnel were placed in the hospital morgue.

He said a number of the attackers were neutralised during the exchange of fire and that a manhunt has been launched to track down those who fled. The command, he added, is determined to ensure those responsible for the killings face justice.
