JUST IN: Paul Chukwuma Set to Emerge YPP Governorship Candidate in Anambra, Days After Withdrawing from APC Race
Paul Chukwuma, a former national auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is set to emerge as the governorship candidate for the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the upcoming Anambra State election. This comes just days after Chukwuma announced his withdrawal from the APC governorship race and his resignation from the party, both of which were confirmed in an official statement made public online.
Chukwuma, a prominent figure within the APC, had been a leading contender for the party’s ticket before stepping down, citing irregularities in the primary election process. His decision to leave the party marked a significant political shift, given his strong grassroots support and influence in Anambra politics.
Despite parting ways with the APC, Chukwuma reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the administration’s renewed hope agenda. He emphasized that his exit from the party was driven by internal issues, not a lack of support for the president’s vision, and restated his deep commitment to the progress and development of Anambra State.
The YPP primary election is scheduled to take place today in Awka, the Anambra State capital. The election is widely expected to produce Chukwuma as the party’s governorship candidate in an overwhelming fashion, given the strong backing he has received since declaring for YPP.
His move to YPP has sparked celebrations across the state, with many residents and supporters praising his philanthropic track record and his people-oriented approach to politics. Chukwuma’s contributions to the APC in Anambra were substantial, including his role in acquiring the party’s state secretariat and establishing offices in all 21 local government areas and 326 wards.
