JUST IN: Panic as Explosion Hits General Hospital, Police Confirm

An explosion at Bagudo General Hospital in Kebbi State caused panic among residents in the early hours of Tuesday.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that no lives were lost.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the explosion occurred within the hospital premises and prompted an immediate security response to prevent further risk. Police operatives quickly secured the area.

Usman said a joint security team comprising police officers, soldiers, and vigilante operatives cordoned off the hospital, while personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit were deployed to assess the scene.

He disclosed that one building in the hospital’s staff quarters was damaged by the blast. However, all occupants had evacuated the area before the explosion, and no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

The Commissioner of Police, he added, has ordered the deployment of additional tactical units to maintain security and reassure residents.

Investigations have begun to determine the cause of the explosion, with the police assuring the public that updates will be provided as findings emerge.

The police also urged residents to remain calm and avoid the hospital vicinity to allow security agencies to carry out their work without interference.
