JUST IN: NLC Issues 7-Day Strike Notice, Demands Refund of NSITF Funds and PENCOM Board Setup
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a seven-day strike notice to the Federal Government, demanding the immediate refund of allegedly diverted workers’ funds from the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and the constitution of the Governing Board of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).
The ultimatum was contained in a communiqué released after the NLC’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting, which took place on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in Abuja under the leadership of NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.
The union warned that failure by the Federal Government to meet these demands within the stipulated timeframe would lead to a nationwide industrial action. The communiqué stated that the CWC had deliberated extensively on matters affecting Nigerian workers, the trade union movement, and the country’s socio-economic landscape.
In addition to the strike notice, the NLC announced the dismissal of its leadership in Edo State, citing internal union matters. The union maintained that it would not relent in defending the rights of workers and ensuring transparency in the management of workers’ welfare funds.
