JUST IN: NBA Confirms Killings of 6 Protesters, Pledges Legal Action
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has confirmed the tragic events in Suleja, Niger State, where several individuals were killed. This follows reports of security forces using force to disperse protesters who had blocked a major road, trapping passengers for hours.
Initially, Niger Police Command spokesman Wasiu Abiodun did not respond to inquiries regarding the shootings. Later, while addressing the protest, Abiodun’s statement did not mention the deaths but noted that some suspects were arrested.
In response, Abdullahi Liman, Chairman of the Suleja branch of the NBA, confirmed that he visited the home of one of the deceased, Yahaya Nda Isah, to gather accurate information. He reported seeing the victim’s body and emphasized that the NBA is actively investigating the incident.
NBA President Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau (SAN) had previously instructed all 130 NBA branches to monitor the nationwide hunger protests and provide pro bono legal assistance to those affected.
