“Don’t Accept Free Rides from Strangers,” FCT Police Commissioner Warns Women
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Commissioner, Miller Dantawaye, has urged residents, particularly women, to avoid accepting free rides from unknown individuals.
He made the warning on Friday, January 9, 2025, during a visit by a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), including representatives from the International Federation of Women Lawyers, NBA Women Forum, and Unity Bar, to the FCT Police Command headquarters.
The caution comes after the killings of Princess Nwamaka Ochigbo, a lawyer, and Chinemerem Chuwumeziem, a nurse at the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, by suspected one-chance criminals in Abuja.
FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said the Commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant, particularly when using commercial vehicles, and to report any suspicious activity. “He emphasised the importance of collective responsibility, timely information sharing, and public cooperation in preventing and dismantling one-chance criminal operations across the Territory,” she said.
The Commissioner also expressed condolences to the NBA delegation over Ms. Ochigbo’s death and assured them that discreet and extensive investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Detectives have commenced work on the case, with the FCT Police committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
