FCT Polls: All Progressives Congress’s Maikalangu wins AMAC chairmanship election

 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election.

 

Announcing the result, the AMAC Collation Officer, Andrew Abue, said Maikalangu secured 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast. He was returned elected after meeting the legal requirements.

 

Paul Ogidi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came second with 12,109 votes, while Dantani Zanda of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 3,398 votes.

 

INEC said a total of 65,197 votes were cast in the election. Of this figure, 62,861 were valid votes, while 2,336 were rejected. The number of accredited voters was 65,676 out of 837,338 registered voters in AMAC.

 

A breakdown of the results shows that Simon Obinna of the SDP scored 2,185 votes; Jibrin Alhassan of the NNPP received 1,694 votes; and Eze Chukwu of the APGA polled 1,111 votes. Richard Elizabeth of the ADP secured 588 votes, while Madaki Robert of the YPP scored 421 votes.

 

Agbon Vaniah of Accord polled 403 votes. Swani Buba of the ZLP received 189 votes; Chukwu Promise of the APM scored 122 votes; and Nemiebika Tamunomiesam of the AA secured 108 votes.

 

Iber Shimakaha of the PRP polled 90 votes; Samson Usani of the NRM received 73 votes; Thomas Happiness of the BP scored 43 votes; and Ugoh Michael of the APP polled 32 votes.

 

Speaking after the announcement, APC Collation Agent Gambo Babale described the conduct of the election and collation process as credible. He said the procedures across polling units, ward centres and the area council collation centre were transparent.

 

Babale noted that the PDP won two ward councillorship seats in Karu and Karishi, adding that the outcome reflected fairness in the process. He congratulated Maikalangu and said the result placed responsibility on the chairman to continue serving residents.

 

Abdullahi Ibrahim, Ward Collation Agent of the YPP, also commended the collation process and congratulated the winner.

 

Result sheets were signed by party agents of the ADC, APC, APGA, YPP and NNPP who were present at the collation centre.
