JUST IN: Naval Officers Allegedly Kill Police Inspector in Lagos

A Police Inspector was allegedly killed by suspected naval officers in the Okokomaiko area of Ojo Local Government Area, Lagos State. The incident reportedly occurred while the inspector and four of his colleagues were on routine patrol along the Igbo-Elerin area.

According to reports, trouble began when the policemen stopped a commercial motorcycle rider and his passenger for a traffic violation. The rider, dressed in plain clothes, along with his passenger, claimed to be naval personnel and resisted arrest.

Eyewitness Shola Shodiya recounted that a heated argument ensued between the policemen and the motorcycle rider, which escalated into a physical altercation. The passenger, who also claimed to be a naval officer, joined in the confrontation.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident. He stated that a report was received at Okokomaiko Police Station around 4:30 PM on Saturday. The report indicated that the policemen, while attempting to impound a motorcycle for riding against traffic near Beno Filling Station, were met with resistance by two men in plain clothes who identified themselves as naval officers.

As the situation intensified, other uniformed naval personnel arrived at the scene and supported their colleagues in the attack. During the altercation, the inspector slumped and became unconscious. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead. The body has been taken to the Idi-Araba Mortuary in Yaba for an autopsy.

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident.
