JUST IN: IGP Drags Sowore to Court Over Alleged Forgery, False Publication, Arraignment Set for September 15

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has filed a three-count charge against politician and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, accusing him of false publication and forgery. The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/374/2025, was filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

According to the charge, Sowore and his media platform, Sahara Reporters, allegedly conspired on July 30, 2025, to forge a police wireless message purportedly signed by the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP. The prosecution further alleged that Sowore intentionally published the forged document along with other inciting materials on his Facebook page on July 31, 2025, with the intent to provoke members of the police force and the public into mutiny against the Federal Government.

The offences, the prosecution said, are punishable under Section 1 (2) (C) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap M17 and Section 114 of the Penal Code Law.

Sowore was expected to be arraigned on Wednesday, but the process stalled due to the inability of the prosecution to serve Sahara Reporters, listed as the second defendant. Prosecuting counsel Wisdom Madaki informed the court that efforts were ongoing to serve the platform through newspaper publication.

Justice Emeka Nwite adjourned the matter to September 15 for Sowore’s arraignment.
