JUST IN: Gunmen Attack Police Checkpoint in Anambra, Two Officers Dead
Anambra State was rocked by violence this morning when unknown gunmen launched a deadly attack on a police checkpoint at Omata Junction, Ichi, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area. The attack, which took place around 8:30 AM, involved the use of an explosive device that resulted in the deaths of two police officers. Another officer was seriously injured in the assault.
Eyewitnesses report that the gunmen targeted a police vehicle stationed at the junction, causing devastation with the explosive device. In addition to the officers, at least three passersby were caught in the blast and have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The Anambra State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
