JUST IN: Five Feared Killed as Bandits Launch Deadly Night Attack on National Park in Oyo
At least five people are feared dead following an attack by suspected bandits on personnel of the National Park Service (NPS) in Oyo State.
The attack occurred on Tuesday night around 9:00 p.m. at Oloka, in Orire Local Government Area of the state. The gunmen reportedly caught NPS personnel off guard, leading to multiple casualties. Some officers were said to have been killed, while others sustained injuries.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of deaths and injuries has not been officially confirmed.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident, stating that security agencies have begun a coordinated response.
“Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men on National Park personnel. The Commissioner of Police and other service chiefs are currently on their way to the location,” he said.
Ayanlade added that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has deployed tactical teams, including Mobile Police Force operatives and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, to the area to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
Security operations are ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge.
