JUST IN: Fire Ravages Lagos Government Staff Quarters in Ogba
In the early hours of Friday, a devastating fire broke out at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in Ogba. The blaze, which started around 2:20 a.m., caused significant damage to part of a two-story building within the complex.
The fire reportedly originated from an electrical surge in the children’s room of Flat 5, located in Block 21, a three-story structure housing 16 two-bedroom flats. According to a preliminary investigation by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the children’s bedroom was completely destroyed, resulting in property losses estimated to be worth millions of naira.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed that despite the extent of the damage, no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported. “The prompt and coordinated efforts of the Agency’s LRT, the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service ensured the fire was swiftly contained and extinguished,” he stated.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation, with LASEMA and fire service personnel still at the scene as of 5:00 a.m. to ensure the area is secure. Residents have also been educated on the safe use of electrical appliances to prevent future incidents.
