JUST IN: FG Declares Friday 29, Monday April 1, as Public Holidays for Easter Celebrations
In a bid to mark the 2024 Good Friday and Easter Monday celebrations, the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, as public holidays.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government. The declaration, conveyed through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Aishetu Ndayako, aims to allow Nigerians to observe these religious holidays.
Minister Tunji-Ojo encouraged Christians and all citizens to reflect on the values of sacrifice, love, forgiveness, and compassion demonstrated by Jesus Christ during Easter. Beyond its religious significance, Easter, he emphasized, promotes essential societal values crucial for fostering social cohesion and harmony.
Highlighting the importance of unity, Minister Tunji-Ojo urged Christians to embody these virtues, believing they would contribute positively to Nigeria’s socio-economic development. He further called upon Nigerians to extend acts of charity and generosity to support the less privileged, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In concluding his statement, the Minister wished Christians both at home and abroad a joyous Easter celebration and urged all Nigerians to collaborate with the Tinubu-led Administration in achieving sustainable development and prosperity for the nation.
