JUST IN: Enugu in Shock as Ogbete Market Chairman Gunned Down
The Chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders’ Association (OMMATA), Stephen Aniagu, was shot and killed by suspected assassins in Enugu. The attack occurred at Moses Ogbodo Junction, near Topland Market, in the Amaechi area of Enugu South Local Government Area.
According to reports, Aniagu was likely en route to his home after the close of business when he was ambushed around 8:00 p.m.
“We heard gunshots and immediately took cover,” an eyewitness recounted. “When we emerged, we found his lifeless body on the ground, and his car was missing.”
It was confirmed that Aniagu had sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the attack. Local residents, deeply shaken, gathered at the scene, expressing grief over the loss of the respected market leader.
Efforts to obtain a response from the police regarding the incident were unsuccessful as of Saturday night.
