JUST IN: Emeka Ihedioha Resigns from PDP

Former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In his resignation letter addressed to the chairman of his constituency, Mbutu Ward, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area, Ihedioha cited a divergence between his personal values and the current direction of the PDP.

Having been a member of the party since its inception in 1998, Ihedioha has a long history with the PDP. Throughout his tenure, he played a key role in shaping the party’s internal dynamics and growth. However, recent developments have led him to question the party’s commitment to its founding principles.

In his letter, Ihedioha expressed his disappointment with the PDP’s failure to uphold internal reforms and effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated, “Since 1998, I have contributed my quota to the development and transformation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as one of the founding members. However, in recent times, the party has taken a path that is at variance with my personal beliefs. Despite my attempts to offer counsel, the party is, sadly, no longer able to carry out internal reforms, enforce its own rules, or offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress.”

Ihedioha’s resignation underscores a growing sentiment among some party members about the need for internal change within the PDP. He mentioned that despite his departure, he remains committed to promoting democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
