JUST IN: Edo APC Secretariat Occupied by Angry Youths
The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) witnessed heightened tension on Monday, following the contentious governorship primary held on Saturday. Angry youths took control of the party’s state secretariat, vehemently advocating for the candidacy of Dennis Idahosa.
Reportedly, three candidates, Dennis Idahosa, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and Anamero Sunday Dekeri, emerged from parallel primaries, causing a rift within the party. The irate youths, led by Tony Adun, popularly known as Kabaka, stormed the secretariat, expressing their dissatisfaction with the party officials who oversaw the primary elections.
“We are protesting against the conduct of the officials at Saturday’s primary election of the party which threw up three winners,” Kabaka declared, emphasizing their resolve to remain at the secretariat until the State Working Committee acknowledges Dennis Idahosa as the rightful candidate.
The agitated youths, having forcibly entered the premises, brought out furniture, bags of rice, and other equipment, signaling their determination to occupy the building for seven days. Their primary demand is the acceptance of Honourable Dennis Idahosa’s candidacy.
When reached for comment, the Edo State Publicity Secretary of the party, Barrister Peter Uwadia, stated, “I am not in a position to react now. When I have the full details, I will react.”
