JUST IN: Donald Trump Reacts to Emergence of New Pope
President Donald Trump has described the election of Pope Leo XIV—the first-ever pontiff from the United States—as a “great honor” for the nation. The newly elected pope, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, was selected by the College of Cardinals earlier this week.
Trump, writing on his Truth Social platform Thursday, extended his congratulations, saying, “Congratulations to Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, who was just named Pope. It is such an honor to realize that he is the first American Pope. What excitement, and what a Great Honor for our Country.”
The former president also expressed anticipation about meeting Pope Leo XIV, calling it a “very meaningful moment.”
