JUST IN: Dangote Staff Bus Ambushed, Dozens Kidnapped in Violent Attack
Gunmen launched a brazen assault on a bus carrying Dangote Cement workers, resulting in the abduction of an unspecified number of employees and leaving several individuals injured from gunshot wounds.
The horrifying ordeal happened on Monday evening as the workers were making their way home from work. The ambush occurred near Okpella in Edo State, a town situated in close proximity to Okene in Kogi State, where the assailants, believed to be bandits, launched their ruthless attack.
Eyewitnesses to the scene recounted the chaos and confusion that ensued as the gunmen descended upon the unsuspecting victims. Details regarding the exact number of individuals wounded in the attack remained murky as of Monday evening, with the severity of injuries yet to be determined.
“One of my colleagues sustained bullet wounds, and others are still missing,” shared a witness who was present during the horrific ordeal. “A coaster bus transporting our staff was viciously assaulted at Okpella. Our entire staff bus was seized by the kidnappers.”
Michael Odofin, a spokesperson for Okpella Cement Plc, provided confirmation of the distressing incident, acknowledging the attack and subsequent abduction of Dangote Cement workers. However, he was unable to provide further specifics, emphasizing the fluidity of the situation and the urgency of the ongoing response efforts.
“At this moment, I am unable to furnish detailed information as the attack remains a fresh and evolving situation,” remarked Mr. Odofin. “I can confirm, however, that there have been no fatalities reported thus far.”
