JUST IN: Court of Appeal Confirms Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan as Kogi Central Senator
In a recent judgment, the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, has upheld Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan as the duly elected candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial Election that took place in February. The ruling came as a dismissal of the appeal filed by Abubakar Ohere, stating that it lacked merit.
The legal dispute dates back to September when the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal in Lokoja nullified Abubakar Ohere’s victory as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Kogi Central Senatorial Election. Following this decision, Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared the actual winner of the February senatorial poll.
Unsatisfied with the tribunal’s decision, Abubakar Ohere decided to pursue the matter in the Court of Appeal, seeking redress and hoping for a reversal of the outcome. However, the recent judgment from the appellate court solidified Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan’s position as the legitimate winner of the poll.
This verdict puts an end to a protracted legal battle over the Kogi Central Senatorial Election, with Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan emerging as the affirmed representative for the people of Kogi Central in the Nigerian Senate. The ruling reflects the court’s commitment to upholding the principles of democracy and the rule of law in Nigeria.
